One woman, standing near elaborate drapery, greets her visitor, who is seated before an embroidery frame adorned with a floral design. The richly patterned carpet, carved pedestal, glass display domes, and open folio on the floor all contribute to the atmosphere of refined domesticity and artistic leisure. Originally produced in England (as noted by the imprint “Entered at Stationers’ Hall”), this view was later retailed in Belgium by Maison Barboni, an optical and photographic supplier in Brussels.
