Original 19th-century stereoview depicting a panoramic view over the town of Andernach on the Rhine River. The image shows the distinctive twin-towered Romanesque Church of St. Mary (Liebfrauenkirche) rising above the clustered rooftops of the old town, with cultivated fields and the rolling landscape stretching into the distance. The mount is printed “VIEWS OF THE RHINE AND ITS VICINITY” along the left edge and “PHOTOGRAPHY BY W. ENGLAND (REGISTERED)” on the right. The caption “15. VUE GÉNÉRALE D’ANDERNACH.” appears below the right image.

Photographer Biography:
William England (c.1830–1896) was a British photographer known for his work with the London Stereoscopic Company and later as an independent publisher.
He gained prominence for his stereoscopic views of European landmarks and landscapes, including extensive series on Switzerland, the Rhine, and Italy.
England exhibited photographs at the 1862 International Exhibition in London and was respected for his technical skill in stereoscopic photography.
His images were widely distributed and collected during the 19th century.
He is regarded as one of the most accomplished commercial stereo photographers of his era.
