An early fashion photograph of a stylish, fashionably dressed woman in Deauville, France, 1920s

 

The seaside resort of Deauville in Normandy, France has been a favourite destination for the Parisian rich and famous since the 1850s. In 1913 Coco Chanel opened her first 'salon' in Deauville and during the 1920s, the wooden promenade (“the Planches”) served as a fashion photographers paradise, when models from the famous Parisian couture houses such as Schiaparelli, Lanvin and Patou showed of the designers latest creations. 

 

This full-length portrait shows a fashionably dressed woman proudly showing of the fashion of the day.

 

Photographed by the studio of Rene Stra's and dating to around 1922. Probably photographed for one of the numerous French fashion magazines.

 

Gelatin-silverprint. The print is both carrying the blindstamp of the studio as well as a wet stamp on the reverse "Studio Rene Stra". 

 

Dimensions: 22,6 x 15,3 cm (paper).
