Stereoview of Froeschweiler, Ruins after the Battle of Wörth, C. Holzamer, 1870

Stereoview of Froeschweiler, Ruins after the Battle of Wörth, C. Holzamer, 1870

Albumen stereoview of a half-timbered farmhouse in Froeschweiler (Fröschwiller), its lower stone walls breached and roof partially collapsed, photographed in the aftermath of the Battle of Wörth. Rubble, broken masonry, and a damaged well or stone trough occupy the foreground, with the surviving upper timber-frame structure and a large tree at right framing the scene. The printed caption identifies the site as a war scene of 1870, part of a documentary series recording the destruction following the engagement fought near Wörth in Alsace.

The mount bears the imprint of C. Holzamer, photographer and publisher in Worms, distributed through E. Linde's Photographic Depot in Berlin, a common arrangement for German war-documentary stereoviews of the period.
