Stereoview of Reichshoffen, Mac-Mahon's Headquarters, 1870
A two-story house with a hipped, tiled roof and shuttered windows, photographed frontally from behind an iron fence and a garden planted with young trees. Two figures, one apparently in military dress, are visible standing at an open upper-floor window. The stereoview pair is mounted on yellow card stock, with the plate numbered '37' in manuscript at the top center between the two images.
A period inscription on the mount identifies the building as the headquarters used by Marshal Patrice de Mac-Mahon during the Battle of Wörth (also known as the Battle of Frœschwiller or Reichshoffen) on 6 August 1870, when his forces held a line from Frœschwiller to Görsdorf against the Prussian Third Army.
