Stereoview of Savoie, Street Scene in Evian, circa 1865

Stereoview of Savoie, Street Scene in Evian, circa 1865

A stereoview of a provincial street in Evian, Savoie, showing a row of shuttered, whitewashed houses receding along an unpaved thoroughfare. In the foreground a low stone wall is draped with drying textiles, alongside stacked barrels and the disassembled frame of a wooden cart; shop awnings and a hanging sign are visible further down the street. The composition is typical of topographical street views produced for the regional stereoview trade during this period.

The printed label on the reverse, reading "ARRIVÉE A EVIAN" and numbered 289, indicates the image belonged to a numbered series of Savoie views, though the caption does not correspond directly to the street scene depicted, suggesting a possible mismatch between negative and printed caption within the series.
